If you have been looking to make your own dry shampoo, it is easy to make dry shampoo using essential oils and it will smell great, too. One of the greatest benefits to using dry shampoo for hair care is that you do not even have to wash your hair to use it. How else does dry shampoo benefit your hair? It soaks up excess oils on the scalp and hair, fights dandruff, and soothes scalp irritation. Learn how to make your own dry shampoo with essential oils.
What You Need to Make Dry Shampoo at Home
All you need for making dry shampoo at home is cornstarch, baking soda, and your desired essential oil or oils. The corn starch is what soaks up excess oils. Then, the combination of the baking soda and essential oils such as cedarwood, rosemary, and tea tree oil improves the health and scent of your hair. Tea tree oil, in particular, is very popular for this purpose.
Depending on your hair color, there are other things you can add to improve the mixture. For dark hair, you can even add unsweetened cocoa powder to the dry shampoo mixture. Redheads can add beetroot or hibiscus powder. Blondes can use arrowroot powder.
How to Mix the Dry Shampoo with Essential Oils
When mixing the dry shampoo, you will want to use 1 /4 cup of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. For each essential oil, you will only want to use one or two drops. Once you combine all of these ingredients, you can put them in a container such as a baby powder bottle or empty salt shaker.
To use the dry shampoo, you sprinkle it on the roots of your hair and massage into scalp. Then, leave the mixture in your hair for two to three minutes. This is so the mixture can absorb your hair’s natural oils. Then brush the dry shampoo through the rest of your hair. You are done!
What Other Essential Oils Work Best in Dry Shampoo?
There are many other essential oils that you can use with dry shampoo. One popular blend known for its aromatic and skin-care benefits is Lavender, Sacred Sandalwood, and Peppermint. If you use cocoa powder for your mixture, you can complement the chocolate scent with essential oils such as cinnamon, orange, or peppermint. Just experiment to find the best blend for you.
